Wonton,
It is reasonable to manage retirement account (IRA, Roth) slightly different from the regular account due to tax issues.
However, personally I do not change investment style between retirement account vs regular account for my own investment.
For example, if a holding is already 11 months, and investors want to sell that due to some fundamental change. Then it may be wise to wait for 1 more month to qualify for lower tax for regular account. But for IRA accounts, selling after 11 months of investment is not really an issue.
BIRTP model portfolio is modeled after regular brokerage account and it is managed with tax-effiency in mind. |

"jumping among the top picks" sounds more like short term trading, which I do not like myself.
The reason is that I do not know how to consistantly profit with short term trading. If you followed my picks to engage in some trading style I do not have expertise, I can not comment that much.
Of course, I believe it does make sense to manage regular account and IRA account a bit differently taking account the personal income tax issues. |
