Intel may be undervalued, but you should look for smaller companies that aren't followed by as many analysts or mutual funds so you can have an "edge"

Hi shu_wd,
INTC valuation comes down a lot. On the other hand, Intel is facing fierce competition from AMD and I do not understand semi-conductor industry to tell AMD from Intel.
Historically, to succeed in semi-conductor industry, a company needs to do excellent R&D and out-compete competitors. This is tough industry. Competition in semi world is much higher than software world where Microsoft dominates.
There are value experts who chart historical valuation of INTC over past several decades and buy this stock when it is cheap under historical valuation range.
Personally, I would not touch INTC even at historical low valuation level because I do not see any certainty of investment profit on this. This industry is too risky for me, too hard for me to believe in. |

well, it becomes harder for Intel to compete with AMD. In PC, personally all the PCs I have is to get AMD, instead of Inter chips. Amd chips is cheaper. In brand PC, big manufacturers are now using AMD chips as well. a rumor said that Dell is going to use AMD.
In server, AMD still needs to do a better job to catch up. usually people still buy Intel-based servers. But HP (if I remember correctly) is using AMD to build its servers.
Intel is looking at other opportunities, such as Wi-Fi.
So I kind of agree with Blast. stay away from INTC. |

By chance I am unfortunately in this industry.
Yes, I appreciate blast's insight that this market
is even more fierce in terms of competition than the
software sector; not to say other non-tech sectors.
I still don't quite understand why fundamentally
this sector is so fierce...
one "inside" news, maybe everyone knows: Microsoft is adding
support specifically for AMD chips in its OS. usually it does that
for INTC. |

A report released a few weeks ago.
In PC, notebook and server, AMD have gained 15 - 25% in Q3 and Q4 in the market. But AMD is no longer cheaper. |

AMD stock or CPU price?
AMD CPU price usually is lot cheaper than Intel's CPU
