Depreciation I requested prospectuses from two oil and natural gas companies- Chesapeak Bay Natural Gas (CHK) and Canadian Natural Resources (CNR)
I looked through both of their financials and have several questions if anyone wants to answer.
1) Can Depreciation be counted as an asset gain
2) Is it really an asset in the context of oil and other capital intensive companies?
Methinks yes in accordance to heavy oil companies. I think we can compare the oil companies to the old rail-road companies of the 19th century. Both are capital intensive but....well at least I would know that rail road companies were profitable- Robber Barrons were they called?
Anyway, both must purchase vast amounts of real estate- just because the nature of the business requires it.
